The story is set in the present day, up until the end of 'Casino Royale', where it begins with Bond (Daniel Craig) placed on the trail of an international terrorist organisation called Spectre. He is sent to investigate a plane that has crashed outside London's Heathrow Airport, where he finds that the plane had been hijacked by these formidable terrorists and was headed for an unnamed city in Latin America. As Bond attempts to find out more about this mysterious plane, his best friend M (Judi Dench) tasks him with finding out who was on board. Bond heads to London's Heathrow Airport where he finds that just one plane has crashed outside the gates. While investigating the crash, he finds that everything is much bigger than what it seems. He soon crosses paths with a mysterious man named Silva (Javier Bardem) who is also investigating the crash, but for different reasons. Bond decides to investigate who was on board the plane and uses his connections with contacts at MI6 headquarters to find out more information about the man responsible for this attack, Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem). By hacking into MI6's servers, he finds that Raoul was linked to an ex-MI6 agent named Skyfall (Ben Whishaw), whom M had sent to Hong Kong after losing contact with him. Bond is sent to Hong Kong to find out more about Skyfall, but what he finds is that the situation has become much bigger than he had expected. Bond heads back to London where he is informed of a terrorist attack on one of the city's financial headquarters. As Silva intended, this attack would cause panic throughout London and increase airspace restrictions, which would lead all aircrafts into controlled airspace, including bulletproof helicopters used by MI6's Special Air Service team.
